Notes
The American Alliance for Museums provides a Code of Ethics for museum practice in five sections and an afterword. The first section is a detailed statement on the role of ethics in museum practice. This is followed by sections concerning principles concerning Governance, Collections, Programs, and Promulgation.
The AAM provides other excellent resources on museum ethics and best practices on their website. The links provided below include their Characteristics of Excellence and an ethics resource page with links to field-wide ethics and standards, national standards and best practices for US museums, and other resources.
